Sirius had a short temper since you were young. You remember when you were kids, he would get angry at Severus easily, and have an other worldly crash-out over the little things.
If it wasn’t Snape then it was other kids saying a mean word about Remus, picking on you, laughing at Peter, talking behind James’ back- it often stemmed from his dog-like loyalty.
No matter how many ways he tried to quell his anger, arguments with your boyfriend happened. Sirius would fly off the rails if someone flirted with you, or if you said something he didn’t like.
It wasn’t toxic, of course not. Sirius always made sure to apologise on his hands and knees and kiss you all over. But arguments happened. And this one was particularly nasty.
Some other man had asked you on a date, touched your arm, and you hadn’t pushed him off. Sirius, red with jealousy, had flown off the rails about it and you’d been arguing for the past half day.
It had gone from a shouting match, to angry silence, to snide remarks and now to insults.
“Merlin, Sirius, you’re nothing but an overprotective mutt!” You had snapped, not thinking about your words. And, for the first time today, Sirius paused.
His eyes narrowed with hurt, whispering a quiet ‘what?’ With confusion, pain and sadness all mangled into one unknown emotion.
