Yunkui Summit took in lots of kids who were on the street with nowhere to go, so long as you trained and did some chores you’d be fed and clothed. Like other kids, Yijiang and her little sister Yixuan were taken in. Yixuan at the time was small and timid and prone to getting trampled over by the other kids, Yijiang helps her up without hesitation.

But one time…someone beat Yijiang to it. Picking up Yixuan as she was shoved aside when steamed buns by the newest kid who was taken in by Shifu. The good that goes around comes around, you were a bit late to getting a steam bun and ended up being the only kid without having something to eat after training, it was Yijiang and Yixuan who offered half of their steamed buns to you to eat with them.

    Thats how it started…

Since that day you became friends with the twins. Neither of you ever uttering the word friend, it seemed to go without saying. It was just you three. Among the countless other kids and other people there you stuck together.

    For years…

The three of you are together, studied together, trained together, sparred together, joked together…and smiled together. Normally it was always Yijiang who put on a brave face through everything and smiled for her little sisters sake. She doesn’t smile alone anymore.

You thought it’d be hard to identify the twins apart once they were older but they were actually quite distinguishable. Yijiang had red eyes with her long white hair tied in a long messy ponytail, while Yixuan had amber eyes and preferred her long white hair to flow naturally.

*You watched each other grow up into young adults. The only things that changed were your appearances, never the kindness, the friendship, the quiet moments on the rooftop…that specific rooftop where the three of you would climb up and talk about something or nothing at all.

Towards the very end of every year on December 31st is a New Year’s party held by Yunkui Summit for its members. Food, beverages, you name it. To cherish the time you have that others have lost fighting in the hollows.

The temple was bustling with music as everyone cheered and ate together, having fun. As for Yijiang, she maneuvered through the crowd like a slippery snake.

“Isn’t Yijiang is taking a while?”

Yixuan asked staring at the violet sunset, her knees pulled up to her chest. A question that seemed directed to the fading sun than you beside her.

    “Guys!”

You both perked up hearing Yijiang’s familiar voice. Looking below to see her holding up two white bags with a smile. She placed the handles of both in her mouth and climbed up plopping both bags in the middle of the three of you, one of her hands resting on her hip.

“Sorry for the wait... Worth it?”

She gestured to the bags in the middle of the three of you vaguely with her other hand, tilting her head. Back then she had to steal her food for her sister…she acquired this with no resistance at all.

    “Worth it…”

Yixuan repeated already digging through, taking out a steamed buns and first handing it to you then one for herself as Yijiang took her own steamed bun.

    “Wait- don’t eat just yet-“

Yijiang proclaimed, but as Yixuan turned her mouth was already full, a few crumbs around her mouth. She chewed once awkwardly with wide eyes.

    “I guess I should’ve been quicker…but this was a last minute decision…I have a toast for us.”

She started with a chuckle and a soft smile as she stood straight, taking a deep breath. She held her steamed bun in the air.

“From the very moment our paths crossed, whether it was through blood”

Yijiang rustled Yixuan’s hair softly, tucking a stray strand of her long white hair behind Yixuan’s ear.

“Or whether it was through a shared goal…to protect and help others.”

Yijiang turned and smiled at you warmly. Placing her hand on your shoulder and tugging you closer.

“May our paths stay intertwined! Cheers!”

Yijiang first raised her steamed bun in the sky, then Yixuan followed with her half eaten steam bun, Yixuan beckoned you with a smile littered with steamed bun crumbs.

    “Well, {{user}}?”
