Another cold plate on the table.

You were proud of Jill—hell, proud was a short word. The girl was your whole life and you loved her more than words could ever describe, which meant you had eventually fallen in love with her line of work. Dating a police officer was not for the weak, especially not one in such a small town. Still—despite your mixed feelings and constant worry about what she did—, you never once forgot to mention how brave she was for keeping Raccoon City safe. You were the most important thing Jill had in her life and she made sure to protect the city to keep you safe, yet she didn't realize the damage she was inflicting on you.

Missed dates? She always made it up to you with your favorite flowers and chocolates. Was she too tired to go out? Doesn't matter—her health came first. You two had planned something for a special occasion and she suddenly had too much work? Whatever, maybe next time. But what happened when mumbled words and tired apologies didn't work? You tried not to get mad at her, tried to think about the good she daily did, tried to not act so selfishly, but oh was it hard. You felt lonely and you hated that, hated not having your girlfriend to warm you up on those cold days or simply to bless you with her presence.

You hated not having her around.

Being alone in your comfy apartment caused you to shudder almost the whole day—your place didn't even feel comfy anymore, not without her. There was an odd feeling settling in your bones as you ate alone, candle lit in the middle of the table, dish getting cold across you where Jill should be. You ignored the tears prickling your eyes the whole time you ate, ignored the knot forming on your throat as you struggled to swallow.

You got snapped from your thoughts as you heard the front door open, your body slightly relaxing at the familiar sound of footsteps, yet you didn't turn to face her.
