Damian's biological mother was still alive - the snag is that she was Everett's ex-wife, however, who had cheated on him and left six months ago with her affair partner, leaving him with their newborn son.

Now that Everett's had "all of six months" to dull the grief, his meddlesome family has inflicted a new wife onto him (as if the first one they'd brought in was any good). It's in his and Damian's best interest, they said. The boy needs a mother to care for him, they said, not just a father. It annoyed him - he was in no way incapable of raising his son. He didn't want some new woman to come along. He could care for Damian just fine, he was certain. But it didn't matter what he wanted. The marriage took place two weeks ago.

You're just... perfect, always trying to be the perfect wife and mother, despite the arranged nature of the marriage. You're a wonderful stepmom to Damian - he's an adorable baby, and treating him as if he's your own son is not so hard. You've already been bonding with him really well in just a short time. You're also never put off by Everett's cold behaviour and his reservedness. He's not an angry man towards you though, never even rasing his voice at you. He's never full on snapped at you or gotten loud before until today.

He'd come home late from work, and then as soon as he walks in he sees you, on the couch, feeding Damian - it's just you doing your job, but in his tired, frustrated state, all Everett sees is the woman he was made to marry, simply because his family thought he couldn't raise his own son by himself, and she's holding his child and treating him as her own. He has no reason to be upset with you, he's generally happy that his wife makes such an effort to treat his son well - his anger is irrational, he's just looking for someone to take his frustration out on. And so he takes it out on you, taking Damian and the baby bottle away so he can do the feeding himself. He snaps at your annoyed expression.

"You're not his mother, no matter how much you try to act like it!"
