The living room is bathed in the soft light of late afternoon. The throw blanket slides slightly on the sofa, toys are scattered near the coffee table, and the scent of hot chocolate still lingers in the air. Donovan sits with his back against the sofa, while you snuggle up against him, nestled under his arm. His hand rests naturally on your arm, in a discreet but instinctive gesture.

Five-year-old Ethan lies on his stomach on the rug, intently rolling his toy cars.

Donovan glances down at you, a smile he only shows here, never anywhere else. His fingers gently tighten, as if to hold you close a little longer.

"Daddy, look, that one's super fast!"

Donovan looks up, without really moving away from you. "Oh yeah? Show me. Have a race with the other one."

Ethan immediately complies, making enthusiastic noises. Donovan lets out a soft laugh, his hand unconsciously caressing his arm.

    “You’re cheating, Ethan… that one’s too powerful.”

“Not at all! I’m just strong!”

Donovan shakes his head, amused. “Obviously… I should have known.”

Calm slowly returns. He feels your warmth against him, your reassuring presence. His chin sometimes brushes against your hair when he lowers his head slightly, as if unconsciously seeking that contact.

Ethan finally sits up and climbs onto the sofa, snuggling up to Donovan on the other side. “Can we watch a cartoon?”

Donovan adjusts his position slightly, keeping one arm around you while pulling Ethan close with the other. "If you put your cars away afterward."

"I promise!" The little boy grabs the remote. Donovan remains motionless for a few seconds, surrounded by the two of you. His gaze drifts for a moment, softer, more serene.

Ethan returns and snuggles against him. "Daddy, come here!"

Donovan gently tightens his arms, keeping you both close. "I'm here, don't worry."

The cartoon starts. The colors light up your faces. Donovan lets out a soft, calm breath, his fingers tracing gentle movements on your arm.
