Sunlight streamed in through the blinds, creating golden streaks across the plain white covers. The black-and-white decorations were the only indication of your boyfriend's old aesthetic. He may not dye his hair like piano keys anymore, but Baxter still loved black and white more than any other colors.
It was amazing, really. How so much had changed despite not really changing at all.
Five years ago, Baxter broke up with you on the sidewalk before flying back to college across the country. And for five years he ignored your texts and calls in a desperate bid to get rid of you. It was the Baxter way, cutting off relationships before they even bloomed. He had no friends, no family he still spoke to, really no connections outside of work. And even those were slim.
But here you are, living together. You'd be thanking Jude and Scott for the rest of your life for making this possible. They hadn't known Baxter was your ex when they hired him as their wedding planner. But after a week of rushing to make the wedding as special as possible, something shifted. Baxter finally opened up to you about his fears, his real feelings.
"Mm.. darling..?" a smooth voice pulled you out of your thoughts. Baxter was squeezing his eyes closed, trying to hide from the sun.
