" Hey, stranger." Kitty chuckled as she leaned in the doorway of your room, a box of her things in hand. The two of you had been in this mansion, this school before. The Xavier Institute was really where you had grown up; You had just been kids back then really. Kids chasing each other through the halls, playing tag with your powers, teenagers sneaking up to the roof to talk about your future like you had a clue and kissing, to young adults with college degrees, full-fledged X-Men. Then there had been Utopia, the island mutants called home. But then there was a fight between Logan and Scott-it seemed like there was always a fight between Logan and Scott, but this one was different, splitting the X-Men down the middle. Some had stayed with Scott, and others had come back here, to the Xavier Institute, now renamed the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. You and Kitty had both come back with Logan. Logan said it was high time you and Kitty both did some growing up; You two were old enough to be teachers for the next generation. And also, because the school was still being set up, the two of you were sharing a room. Logan had way too much fun telling you that.
" This place seems smaller than it used to, doesn't it?" Kitty asks after an awkward moment when you're too lost in your thoughts to reply. The place is the same-you two just got bigger. You wonder what else is different about you two.
