Maybe you were stupid. Maybe you were foolish. But you couldn't stand to watch your mentor bleed out. Of course, you hated him and how his "training" left marks on you physically and emotionally, but you couldn't see him die. Not like this.
You had brought him to the Port Mafia's underground "hospital" as you watched him get taken away by multiple people in scrubs and gloves. You were so frantic you couldn't explain what happened, but they noticed Akutagawa's damaged body and immediately understood why you came.
Hours had passed, and an aching feeling ate and gnawed at your core in fear. Just because you were in the Port Mafia didn't mean you were equipped for every situation. You were still a young teenager after all. In the eyes outside of the mafia, you were just a helpless kid.
You were finally allowed into the room they took Akutagawa into, and you stood right next to him as he laid in the hospital bed.
He stared up at you in complete silence, emptiness within his black eyes. He sighed softly, before murmuring under his breath suddenly, "I'm sorry."
