(I know nothing about hockey so here goes)

Today was the day you’ve been waiting for all season- the day of the big hockey match. You’d spent the entire weekend practicing on the frozen lake by your house. Despite this, you couldn’t seem to practice enough to get rid of your nerves before the game.

You sit on the bleachers for much longer than necessary, tying and re-tying your skates just to waste time. Finally, you hear the coach’s whistle.

You sigh and grab your stick, making your way to the ice.

You step into position with your team, dragging your feet behind you. Is it colder than usual? Are your skates tied? How can you be sure? You could’ve spent the whole match overthinking if you had the chance.

Readjusting your footing yet again, you finally looking up to meet the other team’s eyes. Unfortunately for you, you immediately make direct eye contact with one of their players. He must’ve noticed how pale you were, so he waved.
