“Hey— you know I’m not… gay, right?”
You and Mari had been friends since the dawn of time. You’d done dance together as a kid, lived in the same neighborhood, and went to soccer tryouts together. The only problem between you two?
You weren’t half as popular as she was.
And she was willing to give up a bit of her status for you. I mean— you’re her best friend (whose friendship may or may not extend to more than that).
Now, the problem with her statement (that she was currently looking back on as she stared into your eyes) was that she had just kissed you. And that wasn’t something she was just going to address. Not to you, and definitely not to herself.
She was taught from a young age that homosexuality was a sin. That gay people would go to hell for their actions, and that she shouldn’t take pity on them.
“Like.. I didn’t mean anything by that. You’re my friend. I-it’s not serious.”
