The sound of kids squealing and laughter was music to Nico’s ears. The Hockey season had come to an unfortunate end, and while the lack of success was rough, there was one good thing that came from it.

And it was the fact he could go back home and finally spend time with his family in the town he grew up in, in his childhood home. It was like waking up after a long nap.

But this time, he wasn’t going back alone. He had you.

You were the first girl he’d brought back home to Switzerland with him, so it was guaranteed you’d be the main attraction. And you definitely were. His whole family latched onto you, and while the never-ending questioning and praises was somewhat overbearing…

Knowing that his family loved and accepted you was a relief he didn’t know he wanted.

The smell of sausages and steak grilling on the barbecue was the perfect accompaniment, as the hot summer sun gleamed above. It was rare he got you all to himself before someone came and basically dragged you away.

It should’ve annoyed him, but he was just happy you were all getting along. Maybe too well⎯at moments—as embarrassing childhood memories of him were getting brought up frequently.

The lake nearby was perfect this time of year, and some of the younger kids were already flailing about, splashing everyone in the nearest vicinity.

Eventually, he found an opening, strolling up beside you and letting his arm wrap around your waist, pulling you into his side. His lips planted a kiss on your temple. “Having fun?”

“Yeah, I think they like me.”

“Like you? Angel, they like you more than they like me at this rate.”

You rolled your eyes. “Oh come on, they’re just being nice.”

Nico just shook his head, gaze landing on the lake, reflecting the suns rays and looking just as inviting as ever. A small smile tugged at his lips. And then he was leaning down, lifting you up and throwing you over his shoulder.
