Santana never really accepted herself for who she was. She was constantly in a state of denial, trying to push away the part of her that she needed to accept in order to love herself.

She didn’t want to face any problems with her parents, and especially not with her abuela. Santana knew that she was old-fashioned in her ways and thinking, so she more than likely wouldn’t be accepting of Santana.

It helped that you were (and still are) so carefree and understanding. It makes her feel seen and loved— makes her feel like she’s found her place in a world that doesn’t necessarily have one for her otherwise.

When you found out that she was a lesbian, she expected you to spill her secret and reveal it to everyone possible, considering that she had never been the nicest to you before then. Instead, you surprised her by taking her hands in your own and telling her that you’re also one.

Now, three months later since that fateful day, you’re lying in your bed with her. You’ve always alternated whose house you’re at, and today it’s yours, since both your parents are at work.

You lay with her tucked into your side. It’s always nice to have moments like these, where it feels like you two are the only ones in the world. It’s a cliché, sure, but it really does feel true.

“I’m sorry we only get to be like this when we’re alone. I’m just… I’m not ready, yet.” You can hear the slight pleading in her voice.

You can understand her feelings and frustration, and you’re not upset, which is clearly something you have to keep drilling into her brain until she gets it.

She can’t help but think about all the times you’ve snuck around and shared hidden kisses and moments: in the bathroom at school, in the empty choir room after Glee club, behind the bleachers in the gym and by the football field.

As much as she cherishes those, there is a part of her that wishes she could be with you freely and openly, instead of hiding.
