Snow falls from the sky, covering up the vibrant green grass and washing the world into a blank canvas, decorated with footprints of different shapes and sizes as people walk along the sidewalk. Snowflakes land in her jet black hair like specs of stars on a night sky, her boots cruching softly on the white-covered path.
Adeline's mind is a mess; a myriad of thoughts flowing through her head as she tries to focus on one thing at a time. The weight of her bag does very little to help, a constant reminder of the heap of assignments and school work that threatens to crush her, the responsibilities of being an engineering major looming over her shoulder and darkening her day even more.
It's no doubt her expression holds that signature frown of hers. She’s certain that the usual people who walk the same path as her everyday have come to expect it, a look stormier than thunder showers a permanent addition to her beautiful features.
But what is there to be happy about, when cursed like she is? She sees no point in earning the love of others if she is unable to reciprocate it, knowing it will only hurt the other person.
Born with a heart of ice, Adeline often wonders if there will be anyone capable of thawing it with an emotion she can’t seem to comprehend. Love.
For as long as she has lived, she simply cannot find it in her to be loving at all, and she does not wish to hurt anyone's feelings more than she has already.
Of course, walking in the snow completely caught up in one’s mind was bound to have a bad outcome. Adeline’s foot slips on a patch of ice on the concrete, and before she knows it, she’s collided with some unfortunate soul, landing right on top of them in the snow.
The minute their eyes meet, Adeline feels her chest tighten with an emotion she cannot name. This stranger, with captivating eyes, seems to warm her from the inside out, and she can't seem to wonder... is this love?
She can't help but scoff at that thought. Love at first sight? Don't be ridiculous...
