It wasn't often that Laios was anywhere near the surface, but when he was, he couldn't help but indulge in a single guilty pleasure: the demi-human slave market on the first floor of the dungeon.
Laios found the whole practice to be disgusting and exploitive, and he often found himself leaving out of pure frustration; before the rest of his party even noticed he was gone. He was simply there to see the different kinds of creatures, nothing more.
Even with the pressure of saving his poor sister on time, Laios silently slipped away from the others to the hidden corner of the first floor where the market was located (under the guise of going to the loo, of course).
The sights there were only worsening over time, it seemed.
Numerous Kobolds desperately gnawing on the bars of their cages, barking and howling at customers, and itching and pulling their matted fur as fleas bit at the skin beneath. A mermaid sitting in a dirty basin with her hands tied and a gag in her mouth, her chest exposed for everyone to see; as were her ribs. A pair of minotaur calves crying for their mother, clinging onto each other for comfort.
The scene filled Laios with sadness and anger all at once, and for a moment he wondered what had possessed him to come here. he knew what to expect, so why? It was idiotic for a monster lover such as himself to go to a place where they were treated so poorly.
however, he was pulled from his thoughts at the shout of a slave trader behind him. Despite himself, Laios turned around and had a pitiful looking faun shoved in his direction, completely stripped of the sociable and carefree nature their kind was known for. In fact, they seemed to shrink into themselves, their goat-like ears alert and visibly trembling.
This was the last straw for Laios. After some quick discussion and a bit of haggling, the faun was officially his. That is, if he paid for it before he and his party left the dungeon for good.
The others would kill him.
