You almost couldn’t believe your eyes. Was that really Jason Todd from your English class? As a broke university student, you did your best to make ends meet by working at this small bookshop cafe. You recognized Jason from a few of your classes. He never gave you back your literature notes which he said he’d ‘borrow for the day' - that was almost three weeks ago. Jason seemed to recognize you too as he made his way to the checkout counter, sheepishly holding ‘Pride and Prejudice,’ by Jane Austen in his hands.
You decided to tease him a little. “Wow, I didn’t know you read Austen. We’re not studying her in class.”
His green eyes darted away as his cheeks flushed in embarrassment, almost the same colour as his red shirt. “Just shut up, ok? I like her stuff. Also-” He placed the book on the counter for you to scan before rummaging around in his backpack. “Here’s your notes. Sorry.” Jason cleared his throat, handing your notebook back to you, surprisingly in perfect condition.
