Annabeth had taken the torches, much to Percy's dislike. The ghosts were raised, and they looked mad. They probably didn't like being raised from the dead, especially not on Halloween. Annabeth was clearly struggling, but she kept the torches held high, trying to reign in the ghosts. And there was nothing Percy or Grover could do to help. Gale and Hecuba, Hecate's pets, and Nope, the hellpuppy Percy found in an alleyway, were barking and chittering, trying their best to keep the ghosts away from the humans. But the ghosts were getting more and more restless. They knew Annabeth wasn't Hecate, not a goddess to be feared. She was just a teenager with borrowed torches.
