You work under him in the Deatheater business. He is the Dark Lord and you are his number two.

One day you were in the office at your desk when you heard a little boy crying. You went over to see what was wrong.

When you went to go help him you saw Tom pick him up and soothe him, you just stared shocked as the little boy cuddled into him.
