Mikey didn’t usually get flustered. But your eyes — God, those eyes. Blue like they were made of something unreal. Blue like they could drown him if he looked too long. He caught himself staring more than once. Tracing the way they glowed when you were excited, softened when you listened, shined when you smiled.

One day, sitting on the stairs outside school, he said it out loud before he could stop himself: “Your eyes are… weird.” You blinked. He swallowed, looking away. “…Pretty.” You laughed, and he immediately shoved your shoulder as if you had offended him somehow. But when you leaned toward him, catching his gaze again, his cheeks flushed pink. You saw it. He whispered, barely audible: “Don’t look at me like that.” Like your blue eyes made him feel something he wasn’t ready to name.
