A scuffle pricked your ears as you went about your rounds, seated atop your mare. With a sigh, you tipped the brim of your hat to shield your eyes from the scorching Texas sun, and headed closer to where the sounds were.

As soon as the thieves heard you come along, they fled to their heels and galloped away, leaving only the bound stranger on horseback who they attacked, and taking whatever coin and anything valuable he had.

The stranger looked up at you, peering at you from over his kerchief mask that covered his mouth.

"Yer people sure have a funny way of welcomin' strangers, Sheriff." he scoffed, struggling to undo the ropes tying his wrists.
