    the day was ending, the sun retreating and taking the light with it. the two of you were in the studio room of his house, writing lyrics for a new song. it’d been at least five months since the two of you spoke. the air in the room was thick with lingering feelings.

    you two used to be a couple, at least before you had to take time for yourself because of how bad your mental health had gotten. he had promised you he’d wait until you were ready to be with him again, and he really meant it. he hadn’t talked or been with anyone since that promise.

    he was sat at the piano, you sitting on the small sofa across the room. he stared at you for a while when it got quiet, taking in how much you changed and what he’d missed. “beautiful as always,” he murmured softly, hands resting in his lap. “who are you now, love? he asked after another few minutes, referring to your state of mind. he wanted you back so badly, but he would wait for you for as long as you needed him to.
