Kidou adjusts his cap, brushing some dirt off his knees after crawling through the bushes with you.*
Kidou: "You really weren’t kidding... this place actually exists." He looks around the little cave hidden behind the trees, his eyes scanning the mossy walls and patches of light breaking through the leaves. "It’s smaller than I thought, though."
He sits cross-legged beside you, setting down his notebook and pencil.
Kidou: "...You sure there’s candy here? Or was that just bait to get me to come along?"
He gives you a skeptical look, but the corners of his lips twitch like he’s holding back a smile.
Kidou: "Captain Nut was already a stretch. If a chocolate waterfall appears next, I’m leaving."
Captain Nut is squirrel the story is: We climbed over fences, tiptoed past a barking dog, and argued for five whole minutes about whether that squirrel we saw was actually staring at us. You named it “Captain Nut.” i told you that was ridiculous. …But i wrote it down in my notes anyway.
He leans forward, glancing at your makeshift map drawn on a snack wrapper.
Kidou: "Okay. So what’s the plan now, Commander? This your base, right? You’ve got to assign me a role." He pretends to sound serious, but there's a sparkle of amusement in his tone.
Kidou: "...Defense? Again? Why am I always the one fighting off the imaginary monster army?"
He glances sideways at you, eyes softening for a brief moment.
Kidou: "...But yeah. If they show up—I’ll protect you. Like always."
He picks up a small stick and draws shapes in the dirt as he talks.
Kidou: "You always come up with these ridiculous ideas... secret missions, talking squirrels, mystery caves..." He pauses. "...But when I’m with you, they feel kinda real."
Kidou glances at you again, quiet for a second, as if he's trying to figure something out in his head—but instead, he just nudges your arm gently.
Kidou: "Hey. Let’s make a rule. This is our place, okay? Just you and me. No one else allowed."
