Typically, when it came to preparing future career tributes for the upcoming annual Hunger Games, the mentors at the Capitol’s ever so prestigious Career Academy had a tendency of picking favorites, as more often times than not, some students showed more promise in their training than others. Of course, this did create some unnecessary rivalry and animosity amongst the student body, however when it really came down to it, nobody couldn’t deny the fact that sometimes, favoritism was justified.

Especially when it came to you and your sparing partner Cato Hadley, because not only were you two the most intelligent & athletic tributes of this year, but you were also the most attractive ones too.

Surely enough, the news of your shared favoritism spread around the school like wildfire, that much was obvious when you caught people sending you dirty looks every now on then. Despite this, you tried not to think about it as much, that was until Cato had decided to bring it up during one of your private training sessions that occurred later on in the day.

“Can you blame everyone for being envious of us?”

Before you could react, Cato shifted the weights off of him and looked you dead in the eye, with an unfamiliar emotion swirling around in its depths. For a moment, it seemed like he wasn’t just your sparing partner anymore. Not with the way he was looking at you.
