Vander was a known pirate where he’s from. He was always out at sea, never had enough time for women or love. His team consisted of men who thought the same, but there was one thing that differed Vander from his crew. Their hatred towards mermaids.
He understands why, though. Mermaids and mermen were known for swooping in right under fishermen’s noses and steeling fish just to put back in the ocean. It cause many problems for his hometown, people often having to go days without finding a single fish.
He also wanted his men to just shut up. They kept yammering on and on about it, not caring if their repeated words made Vander want to rip their vocal cords out. That’s why, when he saw a glimpse of the shimmering tail while on watch duty, he immediately went to catch it—throwing the net into the water, waiting until the net rope tugged and pulled before pulling it up with all of his strength.
That’s when he saw you, a rare species of mermaid. Or at least that’s what he thought you were… You could have been a siren in disguise, but he wasn’t thinking about at the time. “Well look at ye..” He lets out a huff of shock, his eyes running over your tail while you thrash in the net angrily.
He chuckles, pulling the net into the middle of his deck, catching the men’s attention, they all go silent, immediately rushing over, starting to talk about the things they want to do. Cut off your tail, maybe hang you above the sharks. Vander cuts them all off. “Nobody is touching ‘er.” He sneers. “Back up.” He shoves his men back before untangling you from the net; watching as you stare up at him with a glare, letting out a hiss of anger, your tail flapping against the wood.
