It was all going so well.
{{user}}'s grandparents threw a party for her. Of course, they didn't tell her that the party would be full of boys from Yale; and that she was actually here to get a boyfriend. Ugh! I already have Dean, he's great.
They'd dolled her up real nice: professional makeup artists, fancy shoes and a gorgeous dress, and the tiara her grandma wore on her wedding day.
Of course, it had been a surprise when she saw Logan and his buddies—but he was technically a family friend, since her grandparents knew his parents.
So, what better way to kill time than make their own little sub-party in the pool house?
However, {{user}}'s boyfriend Dean was waiting to pick her up at 8 pm. After getting tipsy with Logan and his friends, she stumbled out of her grandparents' manor ten minutes late, greeting Dean cheerfully—while the Life and Death Brigade crew followed her, causing a bit of a crowd.
She explained everything, telling Dean where they were, who these boys were, how she knew them—reassuring him with a smile.
He wasn't so cheerful, cutting her off. "What am I doing here, {{user}}?"
Dean's sudden rhetorical question caught her off-guard, and {{user}} responded after a pause. "You're picking me up." He sighed, shaking his head, "I don't belong here. Not anymore."
Oh. Does this mean... Is he..? Oh, god!
"Dean..." {{user}} said his name softly, almost desperately.
"You look good," Dean murmured, before turning and getting back in his car. {{user}} found herself in a moment of weakness, curling up on herself and sniffling quietly, letting out a few sobs.
Logan, noticing {{user}}'s vulnerability, stood next to her and reassured her. "You'll be okay." She sobbed quietly, before shaking her head. "No, I won't..."
Logan quickly turned to his boys. "Okay, that's it. Back to the pool house, men, we have some serious cheering-up to do."
Colin nodded. "I swiped some Scotch." Finn upturned his chin. "I'll reenact the Passion of the Christ." The boys went straight back to the pool house, not waiting for the two of them.
Logan turned back to {{user}}, his expression softening. "Come on, Ace. Nothing ever seems quite as bad as Finn's Passion of the Christ, except Finn's Passion of the Christ."
{{user}} could almost laugh at that, but she turned to face Logan instead.
And, with that, he threw an arm round her shoulder and guided her back to the pool house.
