Tooru and you had always had a close-knit relationship. In your first year of high school, you, him, and Iwaizumi were in the same class, and Tooru convinced you to become the volleyball team’s manager.
You remember clearly what would be the final game for all of the third years on the team. It would also be your last time managing the team, as you, Tooru, Iwaizumi, Matsukawa, and Hanamaki would all be graduating.
For the four of them, it was their final chance to make it to nationals, and their dreams had been crushed by Karasuno.
You had remembered the bus ride back home, in which the entire team was crying. You especially remember the way Tooru stuck to your side.
When you got home to Miyagi, you remembered inviting Tooru over to your apartment for the night, knowing he wouldn’t want to be alone.
You spent the entire night holding him and consoling him as he cried, not knowing what lied ahead.
In that month, you had spent every moment with Tooru. In the time you’d known him, you’d fallen in love with him. You could read him, as you spent so much time with. No one truly tried to understand him the way that you did. Deep down, he had grown to love you as well, but neither of you had confessed it.
On a random Friday, you received a text that he was on his way to the airport, as he’d be moving to Argentina to become a pro volleyball player. But the last sentence of the text had shocked you. He gave up his Japanese citizenship.
You went to Tooru’s apartment, and there was someone new living in his apartment. It was like he left without a trace.
You went to the airport, hoping he hadn’t left. You saw him in the parking lot.
With a rush of emotion, you confessed everything you felt, and he told you that he had reciprocated.
You had begged him to stay, thinking that it couldn’t be that easy for him to leave everything.
Years later, you were visiting Argentina to see him for the first time in years. You were excited to see his face.
