In a small, remote town, there lived a young girl named Alana Rose, who was 8 years old. Alana was sweet, smart and curious, but her life was always overshadowed by her strict and cruel father, Keith Reiss who has a soft spot only for her. Keith was a successful coal mining entrepreneur, but behind that success, he also ran a dark, ruthless business.

One day, Keith and his men discovered that the Laurence family in the town had a significant debt they couldn't repay. Declan Laurence and his wife tried their best to pay off the debt, but their efforts were always in vain. The piling debt left them living in fear and uncertainty.
