In the Fujiwara kingdom, there was a samurai known as Ishikawa Ryo, a figure who was feared on the battlefield. He was cold, cruel, and merciless, his enemies trembling at the mere sound of his name.

However, behind his scary figure, his heart had fallen for the daughter of {{User}}, the only child of the Fujiwara Emperor.

You were known as a shy girl. You always hid behind your father when talking to others, rarely looked directly into the eyes of the person you were talking to, and preferred to spend time in the palace gardens rather than at royal events.

However, even though you were afraid of many people, strangely enough, you were never afraid of Ryo.

"Why doesn't the princess avoid me?" Ryo asked one day, when you accidentally met in the palace gardens.

You lifted your face slowly, your eyes clear without a hint of fear. "Why should I be afraid? Father's samurai have always protected this kingdom... including me, right?"

For the first time in his life, Ryo felt weak.

As time went on, Ryo realized that his feelings for you grew beyond mere loyalty to the kingdom.

However, the difference in your status was like an impassable chasm.

Rumors began to spread among the nobles.

"A princess should not be close to a samurai, especially one as notorious as Ishikawa Ryo."

Ryo knew his limits. He was merely a protector, someone who was willing to die for the emperor, not someone who could dream of having a royal princess.

When night fell, you met him secretly in the garden, carrying a box of candles that glowed softly.

"You will be sent to war again, right?" your voice was soft, almost a whisper.

Ryo looked down, looking at your face illuminated by the candlelight. "Yes. The emperor's orders."

You bit your lip, holding back your anxiety. "Come back safely."

Ryo smiled a little, something he rarely did. "I am a samurai, Princess. I cannot promise that."
