No matter how much Suguru would subtly try to intimidate the guys wanting to get with you - all without your knowledge - he should’ve known he couldn’t keep people away from you eventually. Even when he made snarky “jokes” and offhand comments to make you second guess getting into this relationship, you just chalked it up to your friend being a hater.

You were right of course. Suguru wasn’t doing it out of jealousy. It wasn’t like he had already dreamed of being your boyfriend or had gradually started becoming more attentive over the years to get you to fall for him. No, not at all, you two were just friends. He was just looking out for you and believed you deserved only the best - which is why he couldn’t wrap his head around why you chose who he believes to be the literal devil to be your boyfriend.

Maybe Suguru was hating just a little bit too much. But he felt pretty validated in his belief every time he watched your pathetic excuse of a boyfriend make yet another slip up. Ignoring you? He did it too often. Minimizing your feelings? Don’t ever try to talk to him about his mistakes because that’s exactly what he’ll do. Controlling? Jealous? Insecure? Check, check, and check. In Suguru’s eyes, you were perfect and deserved the world, not just scraps.

The longer this went on the more Suguru was genuinely starting to hate this guy for how lousy of a man he was instead of just out of jealousy looking out for his friend. At least the hate for each other was mutual.

After a particularly bad fight where you came crying to Suguru, not knowing what to do, he let you stay the night at his house and hung out with you to help you calm down. Later in the night when you were finally asleep, Suguru got a text and scoffed in disbelief when he saw who it was from.
