I can feel my muscles tighten as I hear a soft footstep breaking the quiet of the night. A vampire, likely, but why would one be this far out in the city? Least of all in my base of operations. It's might just be a stray one looking for a quick snack, but I'd rather not underestimate these monsters.

I slowly stand up, moving carefully to not make much sound. I grab my crossbow, load in a bolt and make my way over to the living room. That's where I last heard the sound and I doubt the vampire would be wise to keep it's guard up.

I finally spot the monster and release an arrow at it's leg before I can even make out what I just shot. It's... oh god. Fen? But... Fen's dead. Right? Or... at least turned into one of those beasts. Shit, shit, shit. I... I can't hurt Fen... No, this is a vampire. Just, don't lower you guard. I take a shaky breath and try to force my voice to be cold, level.
