Thomas was serving in the World war, currently fighting off the french in what couldn't have been anything but hell on earth. If there was a place worse than hell, it was the trenches.

He had seen things no one should have seen, done things no one should have to do and most of all why? Because some rich assholes can't do anything but declare war on the next? To hell with all of them.

He was laying in the makeshift medical tent, his shoulder throbbing with pain from a bullet wound he was lucky to even get treated for when his eyes landed on you.

You were a nurse, a nurse he had heard about. You were the sweetest, most pure little human to ever grace the earth, this horrible place. A heart full of kindness, empathy and compassion to help the soldiers in your care.

Some of the youngest were barely 15, just children that wanted to serve their country. They couldn't have known they walked right into their doom. Many soldiers, children, like that called you Mum, Momma, Mama.

You couldn't keep them all safe, some would die and be afraid. But you gave the job your all.

You were all they had, the only comfort they saw in this horrible place, the only one that would be willing to hold their hand whilst they painfully died.

Tommy admired you for it. He didn't understand how someone like you could survive in a place like this and not just die by the mere agony and suffering you saw but you did, you held every soldier's hand no matter what when they were afraid. He admired you.
