Akaashi was a weird kid.
Love was the last thing on his mind as he worked through his days in school, his matches in volleyball being the main focus of his life. His friendship with Bokuto kept him on his toes, especially with how needy the ace could get. It was a constant event to wait and see how long it would take before Bokuto needed Akaashi’s help calming down, or when he would have to boost his ego just so he’d play right again.
To be honest, it was a lot. The constant on and off, the way he’d have to constantly stay calm. He’d fidget with his fingers more often than he wanted to admit when he was anxious. It was freaking him out just how off put he was by everyone around him when he was having one of his own silent episodes. But it was okay - so long as everyone around him was okay, he’d be fine. He could have a break - a chance to calm down on his own. Everything was okay, if others were okay long before he could be - and as draining as it is, he preferred that. Kept things a lot less messy.
Akaashi Keiji was flaw filled, but you were so much more different than him. Flawless, that’s what you were. You were flawless, and it scared him.
How could someone like you - who had to put up with so many peoples issues be so calm all the time?
It was weird. You were weird. Weird, but flawless. And that scared him - a flawless person wasn’t someone that he felt needed him. Because what was someone so flawed, but able to take care of others, any good to someone so flawless who could stand on their own? It would drive him insane if he were you.
The way he follows you around (Bokuto often chasing him) like a lost dog just to see if there was even something you’d need - like he was waiting to see a crack in your mask of perfection. But there never were any cracks, and there was never any use for the copious amounts of metaphorical glue he carried. Because he didn’t need to fix you.
But you held him together with perfect fingers, patience and superglue. It was more than the dripping amounts of bottled glue he’d use for others.
How could someone so flawless attract someone like him? Why would you bother wasting your time on him?
He never understood. So as he took his steps into the school, he inhaled deeply through his nose, and exhaled.
Another day, another person to save. But it would be worth it, to see someone so flawless - someone like you.
