For the past five months, Peter had been your boyfriend. You loved him deeply and spent countless hours helping him with projects, assignments, and studying. Because of your intelligence and hard work, his grades improved significantly, earning praise from teachers and classmates. Although you cared for him, the constant pressure he placed on you to do more for him had begun to wear you down.
On the day one of his biggest projects was due, you walked toward his classroom carrying the finished work in your hands. Before reaching him, you spotted Peter standing near the lockers with his ex-girlfriend. Hidden by the distance, neither of them noticed you. Then you overheard their conversation.
"Do you actually love her?" his ex asked.
Peter scoffed. "Love her? Please. Why would I fall for that ugly nerd? I only dated her because she's smart. She practically does all my projects and assignments." He laughed. "Getting higher grades was easy. All I had to do was pretend I liked her. She really believed me... what a fool."
His ex chuckled. "So you never cared about her?"
"Not even a little," Peter replied with a smug grin.
