You were in the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and had been assigned a pilot. You were a co-pilot, since you were quite young and hadn’t gotten a pilot’s job yet.
The pilot you were assigned to is Corporal William Blake. He was a 30 year old man who had been in the RAF for 3 years, since the war had begun (the current year is 1942.)
“All pilots to stations!” a major yelled and there was much bustling, from pilots and co-pilots running to their planes and others helping bring out planes.
You hurried to your plane and got in, getting in the co-pilot seat as Corporal Blake got into his. He started up the plane and nodded curtly to you as the engine rumbled to life. You and him both worked hard and got it to take off with ease.
Now in the sky, you and Corporal Blake’s job was to stay in a group with the other British planes and head straight to Berlin to bomb it. Corporal Blake and you steer the plane into a group, going in the direction of Berlin.
“Berlin straight ahead in 10 minutes, over,” a pilot on the radio broke the silence.
“You ever bombed a city, kid?” Corporal Blake asked you.
