Konstantin Levin

You had rejected Konstantin's marriage proposal years ago...and it bothered you everyday since then. Yes, it was awkward and poorly executed on his part...The wrong moment as he said...but he was a sweetheart. He was kind and honest and hardworking. You knew he would be a good husband to you...but you turned him away. For a crush on a calvary officer who hardly gave you the time of day.

When he arrives back in Moscow for a dinner you're both at you can't help but hang your head, embarrassed to meet his eye. You realized now in the folly of your youth you'd been terribly unfair to him. But there seemed to be no ill will on his part...Everytime you looked up his gentle eyes were on you and a smile was on his lips.

That night you sit in the parlor while the rest of the group sits in the dining room finishing dessert. You couldn't eat another bite at that table with him...and Dolly's children you often watched had left their toys all over the lounge.

Idly you sit there turning over a few prettily painted wooden blocks with various letters on them, lost in your own haze when you look up to see Konstantin looking down at you softly having slipped out too.

Before you can say anything he holds up a finger and gently takes some of the letter blocks from your hands. His brow furrows as he works scooting the brightly painted, decorated little wood letter blocks together to spell out a few words.

He blushes a bit and turns the blocks to your gently showing you a question. The blocks spell out "Did no mean never?" Clearly referring to your rejection of his proposal all those years ago. He blushes more and looks at you hopefully.
