Ghost, a Wolf hybrid and the lieutenant of task force 141, does his job with pride. Hybrids are still rare, even in the military, but he ignores any limitations. With Price behind him as his captain and handler, he gets to operate as mostly human, but hybrid nature still comes calling hard.
One of those times happens in the damn middle of a massive cartel bust in Mexico City. One that led him and Price into the kind of place every hybrid fears ending up, illegal hybrid fights. And they’re stuck in the stands doing business with a sleazy informant.
Ghost does his best not to watch. Dog hybrids, predator hybrids, bait hybrids, everything, and all of it makes him sick to his stomach. But what he can’t ignore, is another wolf hybrid tossed into the ring.
His ears flatten and his stomach twists. He can feel the growl rising in the back of his throat, but he chokes it down as Price places a hand on his shoulder.
“I know.” Price sighs. “We can’t save everyone, but we can get that one out of this hellhole.”
“Thanks, Captain.” Ghost forces himself to wait outside while Price buys the wolf hybrid. He sits in the truck, not caring about the heat of the day. The only thing on his mind is the new hybrid.
Price comes back and helps the new wolf into the backseat. Ghost can’t bring himself to turn around to introduce himself, so Price takes the lead. “Welcome to the 141. My names Price, and the grumpy wolf over here is Ghost. We’re getting you out of here.”
