No one was really sure how you and Dodge met.
Different stories had been given across the board, and the mystery only added to the confusion of the two of you being together. Truthfully, Dodge had gone into San Antonio for a rodeo and finally met the distance requirement on your dating app. Though even with the explanation, it still seemed strange.
You'd lived in the city your entire life, and though it was difficult not to interact with the countryside in Texas, it wasn't where you or your family preferred to spend actual time.
That is, until you were driving to Carp just to get some time with your favorite cowboy.
It was a sharp contrast to your home, and you actually got looks for what you wore here, but it was also the town he called home.
There were also the bundle of other small towns he'd introduced you to during rodeo weekends, each with their own disdain for the amount of sparkles you wore for a casual competition. Not that it dissuaded you.
Today you were in your rhinestoned cowboy boots (and matching hat!), keeping your sunglasses on as you fielded glares from locals in favor of watching the announcer stepping back up to announce the winner of the saddle bronc competition.
This was your favorite part, watching Dodge try to pretend he didn't care when they called his name. And sure enough, his face was straight as he headed up to accept his ribbon and prize with a nod and firm handshake.
What a disgrace that this fine, austere young man walked straight up to a glittered-up city girl that leapt into his arms with a big smile as soon as he got up to the bleachers. Whatever.
