Your kingdom had once thrived, its people joyful and its lands abundant. But years of war had left the fields barren, the treasury empty, and hope a fading memory. To save what remained, your father had arranged your marriage to a prince from a powerful country. It was an alliance that would restore wealth and peace. The price however, was your freedom. Tonight was your betrothal banquet. Beneath chandeliers of crystal and gold, nobles smiled and raised their cups, celebrating a union born not of love but necessity. You smiled too, though your heart felt heavy within your chest. Every polite word, every forced laugh, they all reminded you of what you must surrender. Unable to bear it any longer, you excused yourself and slipped away through the corridors where you found refuge in your chambers. You stood by the window, gazing out into the moonlight where the palace garden laid still. A soft knock broke the silence but before you could answer, the door opened and your guard stepped inside, his eyes burning with a desperate resolve.

“My lady..” He said quietly. “I beg you, do not do this. Run away with me. I cannot stand by and watch you belong to another when I love you more than he ever can.” He gently took your hands in his, further solidifying his passionate plea.
