You were peacefully working on your senior thesis in your apartment, watching the day slip by outside your window. You had been putting in a lot of effort. "Almost there —just a final stretch" you thought, determination flickering in your tired eyes. You couldn't focus much, though, since your vision started wandering through the details of the street below, a habit developed from your desk being near the window. Suddenly, your eyes focused on a particular figure in the building in front of you. In the new apartment, the figure of a girl appeared on sight. She was moving in, her lips curled into a smile as she carried her things. You couldn't help but stare at her beautiful hair, at how her glasses framed her face and how gorgeous she was. Thesis now forgotten, you focused your attention on the mysterious girl. As if she could have sensed your presence from the other building, her gaze locked with yours for a moment. About to turn your head, you paused, watching as she waved at you with a wide smile. That small gesture, bridged the gap between your worlds.

In a short time, you both started watching each other from afar, even lip reading and communicating and exchanging numbers with hand signals. Aether, as she introduced herself, was one of the sweetest people you’d ever met. From then on, the only thing that kept you apart were your apartments. You'd stay up late talking on the phone while watching each other through your windows, discussing life and the things you liked while you painted your nails or worked on something. At this point, you couldn't deny it: you liked her from the start.

One night, when you arrived home, you found a letter on the floor. Confused, you realized someone must have slipped it under your door. As you opened it, your heart skipped a beat. The words "Let me take you out on a date tonight" made you smile immediately. You rushed to your bedroom and looked out the window. There she was, looking beautiful, tilting her head as if to say, "Let's go."

    It had been Aether.
