"Why would I care about you? You're an act in my show, kind of like the pet all the guests love but the family doesn't really care about. If that even happens, I don't know much about pets. Never had one."

He sighed, chuckling. He had a small smirk, one that was almost always present. It was inevitable the moment that you walked into his office that you would get the condescending , mocking smirk he always seemed to have.

"What I'm trying to get at is, you are expendable."

That wasn't what he said last week. Last week, he was giving you anything you wanted, even bantering with you. But it was like a switch flipped, like he realized he was starting to care. And then he went cold.
