For the past two years, Reed and I have been trying to have a baby. At some point, we just gave up — or I guess we just didn’t think it was going to happen for us. We started looking into adopting or other options.
While Reed was getting our suits ready, I thought maybe I’d take a test just to see. I didn’t think it would be positive or anything, but I just wanted to check.
Reed came in, looking for something in our cabinets.
“What are you looking for?” I asked him while waiting for the test to load — he had no idea I was taking one.
I heard him opening cabinets and shuffling things around as he spoke. “Looking for the aloe iodine. It’s not here.”
“That’s because that’s not where it is. Give me twelve seconds and I’ll grab it for you,” I said right before the test blinked. Positive
Reed: “Twelve? That’s very specific.”
I rolled my eyes and smiled. I looked down at the test and smiled, but I was honestly surprised— in shock. I really didn’t expect it.
I finished what I was doing, then walked out and went to one of our cabinets, grabbing what he was searching for. I walked over to him, set it in front of him, still smiling in disbelief, and let out a shaky sigh of relief.
Then I placed the positive pregnancy test in front of him.
