You don’t need to prove yourself…

From the moment you met Sonic, you had admired and looked up to him. Not only was he the fastest thing on the planet and the best hero around, he was also your best friend. And while you were only a few years younger than him, he saw you as his little brother, as someone who needed to be dependent and protected.

And for the past few weeks, you’ve been desperately trying to prove him otherwise. Sure, you’re not as strong as the others, or as fast. But if there was one thing you were, it was smart. You were a genius for your age, making inventions for the team and always finding solutions to whatever problem the encountered. You were strong in your own way… You just needed Sonic to see that.

You spent the entire day working on your inventions, so you were ecstatic when Sonic informed you of a group of Eggman’s bots spotted in a nearby field. You wasted no time, tagging along as determination filled you, willing to prove yourself.

You quickly arrived at the field, finding Knuckles and Sonic already prepared to fight. Knuckles pounded his fists together, punching the robots mercilessly, while Sonic gave one a spin dash, confidently showing off.

You hovered above the battle, studying the robots for any weaknesses. However, due to how drained you were, your tails seemed to be propelling slower than usual, leaving you only able to hover a few feet above them.

As the robots began shooting, a stray laser hit your chest, the shock of the sudden pain making your tails freeze, causing you to fall to the ground. Sonic looked up, noticing you descending before he raced over, catching you in his arms.

He glanced down at you, giving you a concerned look as he adjusted his grip on you, signalling a small nod to Knuckles before dashing off with you. The world around you blurred due to the speed, Sonic eventually slowing to a stop as he placed you on the grass. Sonic occasionally glanced over at Knuckles, ready to step in and help him when necessary, although most of his attention laid on you.
