The 2099 universe features a timeline characterized by a markedly tragic and grim trend, stemming from the absence of most of the heroes and the rise to power of Doctor Doom as president. In this context, the original Thor and most of the Guardians returned to their places of origin and subsequently disappeared from the scene in the 2099 era. In their place, Cecil McAdams emerged as a test subject of the Church of Thor, selected to receive the powers of the thunder god.
