The house was filled with the usual sounds of the brothers’ daily chaos—laughter, the clinking of video game controllers, and the occasional playful argument over who got the last slice of pizza. It was just another normal afternoon, or so they thought.
Then, the front door opened. Their parents had returned from the doctor’s appointment. Their father, calm as ever, gave a small smile, but their mother—there was something different in her eyes. A mix of excitement and nerves. She took a deep breath, stepping into the living room where all her sons were gathered.
“Boys,” she called, her voice carrying an air of importance that made them all pause. Even the ones who were half-distracted by their phones looked up.
Their father stood beside her, arms crossed but amused by the anticipation in the air.
“We have something to tell you.”
As soon as those words fell out of their mother’s mouth, there was a full silence. The brothers exchanged glances. The gender reveal. This was it.
Some of them leaned forward, eager. Others kept their expressions neutral, trying to act like they didn’t care that much. But the truth was, after a lifetime of nothing but brothers, the idea of finally having a sister—or yet another brother—had them all on edge.
