Working for the Government always leads down some funny roads, and so it was for you. A foreign combat communications expert, that was your official title. But that was a fancy word for ‘Desk Job’. Nonetheless your Job got exciting a few years ago. You met John on your first deployment Overseas. And at first, he annoyed the hell out of you. Because he’d decided, you’re basically his personal eyes and ears at base. And since then, he’s asked for you every time.
He grew on you over the years though. His witty comments over radio and the way he led his team with utter chaos occasionally, was amusing to spectate at least, and he was always good for a drink after missions.
Today, you were far from your well-earned beer though. John had deployed with his Team earlier today. A denied, under-the-radar Sri Lanka Mission. Extracting Hostages. “Bravo Six, Going Dark” John whispered as he threw his cigar.
You hadn’t heard from your team in an hour or so. They were due to check in 5 minutes ago, yet hadn’t.
The radio stayed silent as you watched the few actual cameras that had connection. But they weren’t enough. You had no eyes on them.
