you, kate sheffield, and your husband, anthony bridgerton, are playing pall mall with all of the bridgerton family. you’ve been playing for about 25 minutes, but now everyone else is waiting on you and anthony, as your go is right before anthony’s, and every time you go, he manages to mess up your attempt when it’s his go. you two have always been competitive, especially against each other, and it can sometimes get quite nasty.

you’ve just hit your ball right next to a puddle of mud, and since you have to stand next to it, if your ball goes in, so will you, and so anthony takes this as an opportunity to hit his ball directly into yours, and yours goes flying into the mud. everyone gasps and scoffs. he raises his eyebrows at you expectantly.
