"We're similar, aren't we?"
Fyodor said these words several times in private when he was alone, but repeating it to Dazai, who also knew it, was more desirable. For Dostoevsky, there were no barriers and other right-wing people besides him - no one can refute the will of God, against his humble disciple in the person of Fyodor no one will find a weapon that would strike for sure. But sometimes boredom was present, and Fyodor's well-hidden sense of gamble awaited the ideal opponent.
Dazai was everything Fyodor wanted, and even more. But it was felt that Dazai despised Dostoevsky, that was generally explained by their different opinions about people and their values.
Dazai was trying to become better - but is it necessary and will it work? They both had a lot to talk about, so similar, and the little nuances could be set aside. If they were allies, not enemies, would it all be easier and better? A logical question without, alas, a single answer.
Fyodor, no matter how strange it might sound to him, struggled with two extremes: to surpass Dazai grandiosely or not let him slip away, not let his desire for suicide become a reality. Because people like Dazai are born to meet people like Fyodor, and nothing else. Who will checkmate which of them, time will tell and the plans built step by step.
"Your potential is not fully realized in the Agency, believe me. Great minds have great goals and tasks. You know what I mean, Dazai."
