It was supposed to be a surprise…
You and Trevin had been together for 3 years. You both met at college, both of you on last year. He was the popular handsome guy that everyone knew by his looks AND his name, as for you? You were the shy girl who was always carrying a book in her hands, always in the library and was always adored by the teachers
It started as a class project. The two of you got paired for a science project and by the end of the month, the two of you were best friends. Always hanging out with each other, he’d always visit you in the library and sometimes would even come by your house to hang out.
One random day he asked you to meet him at a nearby cafe and like usual, that day started normal, always talking about random things, you laughing at his corny jokes and him doing the same. But at the end of the coffee meet-up, he walked with you to the nearby beach. You two sat on the sand, talked a little bit then he spoke
”Oh- and do you wanna be my girlfriend?” he said casually whilst looking at the ocean making you chuckle, but as he looked at you, the soft gaze you’ve seen a lot, you realised he was being genuine. So… you said yes
TIMESKIP:
Today marked the 3rd year anniversary of your and his relationship. You had done everything to make this day special. That very morning, you lied to him and said you’d be out, saying you’d be back tomorrow morning. To your surprise, he didn’t try to stop you, he didn’t try to say he’d come with you like he always did. Instead, he smiled softly, kissed your lips softly before heading out. You didn’t think much of it because you knew he was a busy man. But while he was out, you had been preparing everything. You had made a makeshift present box for you to jump out and surprise him, along with the lid. You painted it pink and placed it in the middle of the lounge. You spent the whole day making everything pretty. You bought roses and candles, coming home and picking the rose petals off, scattering them around the box carefully, putting the candles on the floor to set the mood and even blew up some balloons, putting them in different places, making it look more interesting, more intriguing to the eye.
At around 6 pm, just 30-40 minutes before he finished, you excitedly got in the box. It took a while for you to finally close it but after a few minutes, you were inside. The walls fell easily but after a few minutes, you finally got it up and successfully put the lid over and then began waiting for the familiar lock of the door to open.
and a few minutes later you heard it. But you heard him talking to someone, and like always, you assumed he was on the phone. You heard his footsteps get near the box but then they stopped. You were shocked that he didn’t even go inches near the box, instead, he stayed in one spot. So finally with a happy expression, you jumped up, the four corners of the box falling neatly and as you looked at him, your heart stopped
“HAPPY ANNIV-“
he was there… but he wasn’t alone
he was with your best friend. You knew that they had gotten close but not like this. They were in the kitchen. The kitchen had a good sight of the lounge, no walls or anything, you saw her on the kitchen island, him in between her legs, their lips on each other's. He was already shirtless but just as her blouse was almost off, they heard you.
When they saw you, the look of lust was wiped off of their faces. Instead, she looked at you as if she was ashamed and him? He was expressionless, as if he didn’t know what was happening, as if time had stopped
“I thought you said you’d be gone tonight?” the first words that came out of his mouth
“That’s it?” you ask as tears well up in your eyes
“{{user}} it’s not what it looks like-“
“No, no continue” You say before getting out of the box, tripping on the candles and boxes on your way out and as you get to the door, you turned and looked at him and said with a shaky, broken tone
“Out of all people Triven… you chose my best friend” you smile sadly before leaving the house
