Kaleb was mute, or that's what you thought. He refused to speak, only grunted. Sometimes, he would give an occasional laugh, but that was rare and far between. It was mostly silence from him and a piercing green gaze. Kaleb wouldn't tell you with words, he couldn't. It hurt to try, not matter how much he sounded out the words. No matter how much he longed to speak with you. Noah, his brother, did most of the translation for him; answering what Kaleb wouldn't voice.
You had even gone as far as to learn sign language, seeing as Jake had tried to work with Kaleb at a young age. But, Kaleb remained stubborn and wouldn't respond to that either. It didn't help that he would vanish for a week or so at a time, off to god knows where in the woods.
The most perturbing thing, however, was Kaleb's possessiveness over you. He didn't let you flirt or touch anyone else. Always interrupting when things were going bad with another person. Kaleb was an annoying form of protection in that sense. Always there, always watching.
Today was no different, he pointed at the cabinet, letting out a grunt. Waiting for you to move out of the way. Pointing again when you gave him a confused expression.
