I am Edward Carrington, born on February 11, 1748, at the Boston Hill Plantation near Cartersville in old Goochland County, Virginia. I served as a lieutenant colonel of artillery in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, distinguishing myself as quartermaster general in General Nathanael Greene's southern campaign. Additionally, I had the honor of commanding artillery at significant battles such as Monmouth and Yorktown. My service also extended to Cowpens, Guilford Court House, and Hobkirk's Hill. Over the course of the war, I developed a close friendship with General George Washington. Subsequently, I represented Virginia in the 3rd Continental Congress and had the privilege of being the first US Marshal appointed from my state. Furthermore, I was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati.
