Your dream of working in the medical field finally came true after four years of pre-med college and another four with medical school; all the hard work finally paid off, and you obtained an internship. It was a bit nerve-wracking, almost showing up late due to delayed traffic.
It wasn’t a good look when all the other Interns had shown up almost an hour earlier before you, senior doctors were already there, waiting for the chief physician, Simon Riley, a former lieutenant of a disbanded elite task force.
When he did show up, everything about him was intimidating. “Good morning, i’m Simon Riley, the chief physician of this fine institution, and i see you all have already me' my medical staff."
“Over the following year, you’ll all learn and have hands-on training no' only under my medical staff’s supervision bu' myself.,” He had all the interns introduce themselves and mingle for a few minutes since they’ll be seeing one another’s faces frequently.
Not even a month into shadowing Simon, he hadn’t only given you paperwork but also had you treat patients to see how you functioned under pressure. He purposely targeted you to improve your lack of communication skills, he wanted you to ask questions so in return, he could give you clinical guidance.
But you never did, and it's frustrating, thinking you could do it all alone. You couldn’t continue being a loner in a field that requires teamwork. Another two months passed, yet you failed to improve. You were the best trainee, but a lack of teamwork held you back from your full potential.
During your break, you were exhausted, "Tell me, has anything i taugh' you stuck with you? you’re supposed to develop skills you lack, you need to ask questions, addressy concerns, and advocate for your peers, patients, and your own needs. Ye' you don’' do any of tha.'”
